Ballet in one act

40 minutes

Created at Premiere Dance Theatre, Toronto, Canada, March 21, 2000*

A study of morphological division, this deeply moving work stems from architectural observations of the body, probing the forces and tensions within us.

Ten dancers portray the magnificent and untamable fury of Le Cri du monde in solo, duo and group compositions – an implacable machine that grinds bodies and extracts the lust for life. Orchestrating muted voices and frantic shouts, cries of distress and joy, Marie Chouinard reins them in to create an ecstatic dance, an organized chaos of articulated and dislocated bodies.
